Mother’s Day is sneaking up on us – looking for a handmade gift in Weymouth this month? At Dotty Beads we are going to be making a gorgeous piece of jewellery – a beautiful cuff of your own design! The picture shows you just an example, but with the huge range of glass beads available each cuff will be unique – unique to person it has been created for. There will be help every step of the way, and those of you who have been on one of our workshops, you’ll know that although it may look difficult, our workshops are geared to all abilities. Dotty Beads Saturday club/shop

A warm welcome awaited those who came to our first jewellery-making club meeting (as opposed to a workshop). It worked really well as help was on hand if needed whilst people worked on their own projects. I had been asked to do some repair work on a couple of items so that kept me occupied! It was great to have the time, sitting, chatting and encouraging each other and Lin made some ear-rings to match a necklace she’d made at a previous workshop. I try to keep stocks of beads and findings at good levels so if you fancy coming for a browse next time, please feel free (no obligations!) January saw the first workshop of the new year and the fun part was in the cryptic title – ‘fit for a queen’! It could have been anything but this months project was using glass pearls (pearls? pearly queen? fit for a queen?!) Thinking about the design, colour and size of the beads was the first challenge of the morning. Next came the stinging together which looked much more complicated than it actually was as everyone had chance to work with the examples made earlier. We had a few huffs and puffs at one point before we realised that Claire had threaded the middles pearls round the wrong way but the end bracelet was worth it. Rachel made a brilliant necklace in pink and green – gorgeous!

'Fit for a Queen?'

Happy New Year everyone! It’s going to be ‘beady’ fun all way through 2012, with extra workshops and the new Dotty Beads Saturday Club/Shop. The first workshop of the year might be ‘fit for a queen’! I’ve realised that a Sunday might not be convenient for everyone and have decided to add an extra afternoon slot in as well on a Tuesday. This might suit mums (plenty of time to pick the kids up from school), part-time workers and shift workers. There are still a couple of places on the Sunday workshop and a number on the new Tuesday one, at the moment. Fancy joining us? Please spread the word and tell your friends. We always have fun in our warm, friendly groups!

Sparkly Crystal Christmas Tree Earrings

We ran another very successful Xmas workshop yesterday – full house, too. The air was alive with ‘beady’ angels, and heavy with concentration (lots of tongues in corners of mouths) together with sighs. Every now and then a GASP of breathe and everyone looks up to see what has happened! Debbie made a lovely decorated bauble and some made delicious beaded snowflakes. Its great fun watching people create and very satisfying when they complete a project – you can see the pride in their face, along side a broad grin!

Meet Dotty Beads!

We had our first ‘outing’ on Wednesday – a real success! A lot of people came to see what I get up to and I was able to share the website with them. Some folks thought I was selling the jewellery and when Isaid that this is what was made at the workshops their eyes lit up! If you look closely, I decorated a ‘tree’ too – there are still a couple of places available at the nest workshop on Sunday if you want to make a cute angel, or decorate a bauble for your own tree – just email me.

Christmas angel ear-rings

Dotty Beads is looking forward having its first ‘outing’ and at a local Christmas Fayre this week – its very localised with my friends and colleagues at the Land Registry Weymouth on Wednesday. I’m going to take samples of work created at the workshops including the latest items crafted at the Christmas Workshop. It was a such a popular event and we’ll going to run the next one as a ‘mop-up’ for people who missed it (Sunday 11 December) The delightful angel ear-rings shown here are quick and easy to make – why not try for yourself? As ever all the materials and tools will be available and if you need help, then that’s there for you , too.

And just to keep you on your toes, I have some exciting news for 2012 so watch this space!

Beaded Christmas angel idea!

Aren’t they cute? Our very own Dotty Beads host of Christmas angels! These angels are simple and fun to make using safety pins and beads. We loved them so much that we’re offering you the chance to make them in our next workshop Sunday 11 December 10-1pm. All the materials will be included of course and we’ll show you how to make them. There are just a couple of fiddly bits but I’ll help with that, too! We also decorated some baubles for the tree, made snowflakes for the window and even some delightful angel book marks – the choice is yours! Or you may simply like to join us and have a go at making a festive necklace?
